DIVINE
TANJORE
COLLECTIONS
Where devotion is shaped into form, and tradition is carried forward with intention.
Divine Tanjore Collections is rooted in the centuries-old practice of Tanjore painting—an art form that brings together craftsmanship, material richness, and spiritual depth.
Each work is created through a slow, deliberate process where surface, gold, colour, and detail are built layer by layer. The result is not simply visual—it is dimensional, tactile, and enduring. These are paintings that hold space. Quietly, but with unmistakable presence.

The Complete
Divine Collection
We craft a wide array of deities and non-deity themes, each meticulously detailed with gold and gemstones.
The Work.
Tanjore painting is known for its distinctive visual language—luminous colour, sculpted relief, intricate detailing, and the use of gold that catches and reflects light with depth.
At Divine Tanjore Collections, this language is approached with precision and restraint. Every element is constructed by hand, allowing the work to develop gradually, without compromise. The richness of each piece does not come from excess, but from process—from the time taken to build it, and the attention given to every stage. No two works are identical. Each carries the mark of its making.
Bespoke Works.
Every painting we create is thoughtfully crafted around your vision, making each piece deeply personal and unique. The process begins with a conversation—understanding your preferences, ideas, and inspirations. We work closely with you to consider the subject, scale, composition, and level of detail, ensuring that the final artwork reflects exactly what you have in mind.
From concept to completion, each element is carefully tailored to suit your space, taste, and story. Whether it’s a specific theme, a meaningful memory, or a particular aesthetic you wish to achieve, the painting evolves as a collaborative journey—resulting in a piece that is not just visually striking, but truly yours.
THE TRADITION
16th CENTURY
The Tradition
Originating in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Tanjore painting dates back to the 16th century.
Shaped by temple traditions and royal patronage, it has long existed as more than a visual art form. Its materials, methods, and imagery are closely tied to devotion, ritual, and presence. What distinguishes it is not only how it looks, but how it is made—through a process that combines painting, embossing, and ornamentation into a single, cohesive form.
At Divine Tanjore Collections, this tradition is not reinterpreted or simplified. It is continued—with care, clarity, and respect for its original language.
ABOUT THE STUDIO
Divine Tanjore Collections is a studio dedicated to the continued practice of Tanjore painting in its most authentic form.
This is an art form defined by depth—both visual and material. Surfaces are built, not painted flat. Gold is applied, not suggested. Detail is not decorative, but structural to the work itself. Traditionally found in temples and sacred spaces, these paintings carry a sense of permanence and stillness that naturally extends into contemporary interiors.
The studio’s approach is measured and intentional—allowing the work to exist without excess, and without dilution.
THE
PROCESS
Time-Intensive Stages
Each painting is created through a sequence of meticulous, time-intensive stages, carried out entirely by hand. This process can take weeks, often longer—depending on the scale and intricacy of the piece. Nothing is rushed. The time taken is integral to the final work.
Surface
Preparation
The surface is first prepared to hold the work firmly.
Composition
The composition is drawn with precision and balance.
Embossed Relief
Embossed relief is built to give the painting its sculptural depth.
Gold Foil
Gold foil is then applied, catching light and adding real dimension.
Stones & Textures
Stones are set individually, enhancing texture and intricate detail.
Brushwork
Finally, the painting is brought to life through careful, layered brushwork.
Materials.
The materials used are central to the character of each painting.
Gold foil lends luminosity and depth, interacting with light in a way that changes throughout the day. Natural elements and hand-prepared surfaces ensure that each piece carries a tactile, grounded quality. These are not imitations of tradition—they are continuations of it, built using the same material language that has defined the art form for centuries.
THE FOUNDER
Lakshmi
Divine Tanjore Collections was founded by Lakshmi. Her introduction to Tanjore painting came during a period of stillness, where the act of making became a way of returning—to focus, to patience, and to a deeper engagement with craft.
What began as a personal exploration gradually evolved into a sustained commitment to the art form—one that extends beyond the individual work, into the continuation of the practice itself.
ARTISANS
The studio works alongside skilled artisans, including women from coastal communities.
Their role is central—not only in the making of each piece, but in the continuation of the tradition. The knowledge they carry is embedded in practice, shaped over time through repetition, discipline, and care. Through this work, the craft remains active—lived, rather than preserved at a distance.
MISSION
To Continue, Not Redefine
The intention is not to alter the language of Tanjore painting, but to continue it with clarity and respect. Every work is created within the framework of traditional methods, ensuring that what defines the art form remains intact.
To Sustain the Practice
Tanjore painting endures through making. By continuing to create using traditional processes, the knowledge remains in motion—held within the act of making itself, rather than separated from it. Each painting contributes to this continuity.
Support the Hands Behind the Work
The practice is inseparable from the people who carry it forward. By working closely with artisan communities, the studio ensures that the craft remains a source of skilled, meaningful work—sustained through everyday practice.
To Create Work That Lasts
Each painting is created with longevity in mind. Not as something momentary, but as something that can remain—within a home, within a space, and across generations. Over time, the work does not diminish. It settles, deepens, and becomes part of its surroundings.
Works that Hold Space
In Tanjore art, nothing is accidental. The golden halos reflect divine light, reminding us of protection and grace. Created to remain over time.
